Replacement starter making an unusual sound
I picked my car (06 Z4MR) up from a shop this week after having a new starter put in. Now, when the starter is engaged, it makes a sound a lot like an air wrench. The shop told me, and from a bit of my own research, it does not look like there is any kind of shim or adjustment to be made. The car does start every time I try it. Is this just a bad starter? A bad install? I wasn't expecting there to be any sort of break in for a replacement starter. I am concerned about possible damage to the starter or flywheel if the fit is not exactly right. Has anyone had an experience like this? Any advice? Thank you.
Here are two video clips of starting the car. Start 1 Start 2 Last edited by schobyb; 07-20-2023 at 12:40 PM.. |

Update: not sure what the cause is, but the issue is still present and I am planning to take it back to have a new starter put on.
