NCS Expert not compatible with my Windows7
I read through the thousands of posts on the sticky and searched here for my problem and found bits and pieces, but then I got stuck. So, here's my problem:
I get this when I open NCS Expert from my desktop shortcut: ![]() So I went to the link to update my driver to allow this to work with Windows 7 based on this post: 7.FIFO must be enabled? Tx and Rx set to "8"?? The hell is this, I don't have these options in my COM settings? The newer FTDI drivers do not have this feature. It's fine. It'll work. Just lower latency to "1". Leave rest default. If you decide to get the drivers straight from FTDI, reference this post for some clarification. | Update: Ok, technically the FIFO options still exist...but in registry, reference this post. Then I downloaded this driver, 2.08.14. ![]() Here's what came over: ![]() So when I follow their install guide to update my driver, I don't get the Other Devices option: ![]() I changed my Com to 1 and latency to 1, so I get the Ports (com/LPT) option and when I try to update the driver under that, it says I have the most up to date driver. What am I doing wrong? I do get the 2 black dots when I open INPALOAD, but I do fail the airbag test. |

I wouldn't worry too much about the airbag test. Apparently some never get it working. INPA seems to be much more temperamental than NCS.
Do you still get the NCS error with the new driver? |

If you have win 7 64 bit
You can upgrade to win pro or ultimate and download a virtual xp machine.
and ncsexpert will work with that. I would try some of the other options in inpa to verify your com line is working before going on to coding. The newer operating system com setup its only necessary to set it to com 1 and latency 1 read this dude http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480261 Last edited by ctuna; 02-05-2012 at 09:21 PM.. |

Tis is some of the most frustrating Fd up sheeeeit I've tried yet. Upgraded to Professional and added XP mode/Virtual PC. Moved the Ediabas, INPA, and NCSEXPERT folders over to the virtual PC. Created the NCSEXPERT shortcut, the INPALOAD shortcut, and the WORK shortcut to the new desktop. Then did the OBDsetup run and restarted the machine. Right before it shutdown, it put the Virtual PC into hibernation. Followed the rest of the DIY... Went into the device mgr and changed the path and comm settings to 8 and 8. Plugged the cable in the car and laptop, I have Comfort access, so I pushed the button twice to activate the ignition. Clicked on the shortcut INPALOAD and no black circles. WTF?? I get them when I run INPALOAD from my original Windows7????
So, Any ideas now, before I get tooo frigging pissssed????? I'm sure I'm missing something stupid. Last edited by wdlfbio; 02-06-2012 at 07:00 PM.. |

OK, got that figured out. Both black dots on INPALOAD, failed the airbag test, but oh well. Moved on to NCSEXPERT and got to step 40 for VIN and FA. VIN was loaded, but not FA and got an error. I used the E89 V42 Daten that I copied all 3 folders (sgdat, daten, ecu) to their respective folders in EDIABAS and NCSEXPERT. My car is a 2012 and I see that V45 is out :http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=638152&highlight=usenet So I set up my usenet account and will try to download V45

The device manager in the virtual pc
Will look exactly the same as it does in a regular PC with the ftdi drivers
installed . It shouldn't appear in the other devices. I had to fumble with my device manager before I got it sorted and I don't know exactly how I did it. But it finally detected the attached device as a usb to serial port adapter and popped up in com ports and line printer sub folder .I pointed it to the driver files which I had downloaded then it looked the same. I uninstalled the normal com port drivers so there would be no conflict. |

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread, but no configuration whatsoever seems to allow NCS-Expert tool to run in Win 7 64 bit. I don't want the latency of messing about with a VM, so I guess I'll just need to score a laptop with 7 32 bit or XP huh?

Yes sir I did, and I have SP-Daten 49.x coming down the pipe.
No matter if I run in compatibility mode or not, on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop, NCS-expert refuses to run. I found NCS dummy, and I'm considering using that, but there's not much information on how to flash with that. Trying to find all of the components necessary to follow the instructions supplied to do the Alpina flash on my clunky old Windows XP desktop. It will probably be sometime before I gather up the balls to even think about flashing the car, but I'm starting the process ![]() There's about 30 feet between the car down in the driveway and my computer in the room so I'm hoping I can code everything without messing with the car too much, ultimately. |

No clue on how to use ncsdummy for flashing but I do use it to translate the coding to English so I understand easier.
I've got Daten 50.2 if you want it but idk what datens are needed for the tcu flash. Not sure how you can run it from the bedroom coding cables are only so long??? |

![]() You should first gain more knowledge about this, cause NCSdummy is not a tool able to flash anything. If you have Standard Tools 2.12 then it must work on Windows 7 - Ncsexpert 4.01 also works there great, so I will send you all necessary files with Alpina flash files too, don't brick anything dude |
